Damnation Defaced - Scorn - Song Review - Melodic Death Metal from Celle, Germany

Today we are featuring a promising melodic death metal band, Damnation Defaced, from Celle, Germany. I reviewed their song, Scorn, exploring its character, style, story, potential, and more.

Damnation Defaced is a promising post / melodic death metal band I discovered about a month ago with their latest single, "Scorn," released on September 3, 2021. I invite you to listen to the song while reading the rest of the article.

Scorn initially impressed me with its powerful mix, and undoubtedly, I am not alone in thinking this after a single listen. However, I began to wonder if Damnation Defaced would meet my musical expectations. This aspect, to some extent, depends on personal taste, and I'll share mine with you below.

It is important to note that Damnation Defaced is a highly experienced death metal band with 15 years in the industry. I admire them for this. Therefore, it comes as no surprise to hear their established sound and style. Scorn, their latest single, possesses a potent musical blend that many metalheads would enjoy headbanging to. I detected influences from traditional death metal bands, modern death metal acts like Gojira, progressive/dark/atmospheric death metal bands such as Opeth, and an open-minded industrial metal approach, reminiscent of Rammstein's Deutschland.

Personally, I believe that music is the result of a successful fusion of various exciting elements, and those who execute it well make it happen. In the case of Damnation Defaced, they have already achieved many commendable things throughout their careers, with their unity and dedication to making music being one of the most admirable aspects of any band. In summary, Scorn is proof that these gentlemen deserve immense respect.

As for the weaknesses, I must admit that the specific music style didn't resonate with me as much. The overall sound felt both modern and traditional, but it also had a commercial touch. Additionally, it didn't possess the darkness I personally seek in this genre; rather, the song reminded me of power metal with its impactful, punchy, and aggressive attitude. It is worth noting that the influences of power metal giants Iced Earth can be heard in their music.

Taking all of this into account, I am impressed by Damnation Defaced. I believe they are on the verge of reaching the next level in their careers, and their achievements thus far are well-deserved.
