WaterColour Matchbox - The Reckoning - Song Review - Progressive Rock from Guernsey. Metalhead Community Magazine.

Today we are featuring a promising progressive rock band, WaterColour Matchbox, from Guernsey. And I have reviewed their single, The Reckoning, along with its character, style, story, and potential.

First of all, I am delighted by my discovery of another fantastic band, specifically in post/progressive rock with additional commercial side. These gentlemen are from Guernsey (leaving a link to this incredible British island!), who immediately taught me something I didn't know. The Reckoning was actually released in 2019, and for those who are interested, Toss a Coin to Your Witcher (2020) is the latest release, a single by WaterColour Matchbox.

The musical side of The Reckoning gave me enough right signal about this band. I sensed influences from alternative, math, prog, and post-rock in their musical blend, performed with advanced musicianship while maintaining commercial potential. The song has strong emotions, powerful dynamics, and great energy all along the way, I am satisfied with everything I've heard. The composition is nowhere standard, has a beautiful balance between overly complex and mainstream. They are rather more creative with their individual parts, for example, the guitars. Exceptional performance, great job!

Technically, The Reckoning also has satisfying standards, in other words, it has the necessary industry standards in its recording and mix. The sound personality offers this song for rock, alternative rock, progressive, post, and even pop-rock listeners, due to its easy listening approach in it even though it's totally progressive. This specific detail surprisingly reminded me of ...And Justice For All album by Metallica, along with the instrumentation. And that's crazy, I know.

Lastly, the only thing that I am not a fan of in the song was its "overly progressive rock" sound personality. For some reason, this decision turned the sound too much punk to my ears, reminds me of bands like Blink 182, even though WaterColour Matchbox is never anywhere close to it. This is subjective, I just would prefer to hear these guys with a darker metal sound (example; Ihsahn - Celestial Violence)

When I take all these into account, I'd like to say that I am well impressed by WaterColour Matchbox. The Reckoning is a promising piece of work, properly represents WaterColour Matchbox.

One of the finest progressive rock songs around with additional alternative rock flavour, modern sound, and impressive instrumentation.

Please go ahead and check out the links below if you'd like to find out more about the artist/band, follow them on social media, subscribe to their channels to show your support, and not miss any upcoming releases.

In conclusion, Metalhead Community Team congratulates WaterColour Matchbox for their promising new single The Reckoning, and wishes them the very best in their future careers. Thank you for reading.
