Today we are featuring a promising experimental progressive jazz rock artist, Jeff Novotny JAZZPRJKT, from Phoenix, Arizona, USA. I reviewed his latest single, Cygnus X-1, along with its character, style, story, potential, and more.

Jeff Novotny JAZZPRJKT is a promising experimental progressive jazz project I discovered about a month ago with his latest single, "Cygnus X-1," which was released on August 6, 2021. For those who haven't heard about the artist before, Jeff Novotny JAZZPRJKT started his career with a single called "Decarboxylation" in 2010. Since then, the artist has released fourteen more singles: "The Uninformed Security Guard" (2013), "Whacked!" (2013), "The Wrasse and the Swallow" (2013), "Incontinental Breakfast" (2014), "L'Epoisses" (2016), "Harold Brown" (2016), "A Caribbean Odyssey" (2016), "Pleonasm" (2017), "I Can't Wait to Never Do That Again" (2018), "Svratka / Svitava" (2018), "No One is Flying the Plane" (2019), "Captain Kangaroo vs. Sex Robots" (2020), "Super Critical" (2020), and "Cygnus X-1" (2021). Now, please give the song a listen while reading the rest of the article.

Today, I am discussing the music of an extremist, Jeff Novotny, and his latest piece, a space thriller, Cygnus X-1. Firstly, I am not the right person to define everything in such specific music. I have a strong connection with prog music, yet Jeff Novotny's work is simply beyond my imagination, which also means beyond my understanding.

When I listened to Cygnus X-1 for the first time, I sensed nostalgic vibes throughout. The nostalgia reminded me of scenes from old Star Trek movies. There are several reasons, but one thing is certain: the music itself has an amazing association with space, which was Mr. Novotny's main goal. The dimension here is vast and can be explained with examples such as space and galaxies, so I can be precise in my details for readers.

The second interesting aspect that supports my first reason is the richness of details and harmony. The nature of these elements is akin to rocks in the galaxy, constantly moving with their own weight. I have been actively making music for over 20 years, and I can't even picture in my head how one can write such music. This fact signifies one thing: it is simply incredible. After listening to the entire composition, you feel like Jeff Novotny is creating music 100 years ahead of his time. And that's the closest definition there is.

The last point is obviously the title of the song and the artwork. Mr. Novotny is influenced by the sound of space and he brings a close example of it to the world, in an extraordinary way.

The technical side of the work has its own beauty and harmony. You don't need too much technical focus for music like this, where artistic and philosophical value is dominant. You just need to hear the instruments clearly so you can follow along, and that's all. I felt like there was no room to make this song better than the already exceptional standards of Cygnus X-1. All those visions I spoke about earlier were feelings that arose from the song, and this wouldn't be possible if the mix didn't contribute. I am more than satisfied.

Taking all of this into account, I'd like to say that I am impressed by Jeff Novotny JAZZPRJKT. I have huge respect for Mr. Novotny's understanding of music, innovative mind, philosophical value, level of creativity, as well as his majestic discography. Although I don't typically listen to this music genre, it has been a while since I've heard such shockingly innovative music.
