"Arcane Shadow" is an undoubtedly impressive song with numerous commendable aspects. First and foremost, I must express my deep admiration for my fellow Greek metal musicians and bands. The metal scene in Greece has always been thriving throughout history, and it continues to flourish. The Greek collective, in my opinion, has already solidified their position with the release of their debut album. To establish such a refined sound on a debut album is a noteworthy achievement, particularly for a band not based in the U.S., the UK, or central Europe.
The collective has successfully carved their own identity within their music. While they may share similarities with other bands in certain aspects, listening to "Arcane Shadow" alone convinced me of their collective potential. From the very first listen, the song makes an immediate impact with its powerful opening. The message conveyed throughout the track remains strong and prevalent. This characteristic sets them apart from other death or black metal acts and serves as one of the defining traits of the band. By blending elements of doom metal, post-metal, and old-school death metal (with a touch of black metal), the band has created an impressive sonic collage.
The technical execution flawlessly delivers the energy to the listener. Hands down. Without the meticulous attention to detail, the right decision-making, and overall approach, this song wouldn't have the same level of impressiveness. Dissenting Minds have done a phenomenal job in bringing this music to life. Firstly, the atmosphere is absolutely stunning, reminiscent of movie soundtracks with its vast expansiveness. Secondly, the instruments are perfectly harmonized—nothing is overpowering or too subdued; everything is precisely balanced. Lastly, the vocals blend in flawlessly, adding their own characteristic touch. And that's the essence of it!
Considering all these factors, I must say that I am thoroughly impressed by Dissenting Minds. "Arcane Shadow" is an outstanding debut, and these Greek musicians demonstrate their immense potential right from the start.
