Vile Retribution - Into the Infinite - Song Review - Death/Black Metal from Copenhagen, Denmark

Vile Retribution is a death/black metal band hailing from Copenhagen, Denmark. The band was founded in 2013 by drummer Jonas and guitarist, vocalist Rasmus. The band has released “Into the Infinite” which is their second track from their upcoming EP titled “Silenced”. The EP release is delayed due to the band members’ not being able to be in the same room as most of us for quite some time, because of covid-19 restrictions

Into the Infinite’s credits shows as “Produced by: Jonas Dehn & Rasmus Laurberg Hansen”. You can clearly get the sense of founding band members handling the production duties by the clear sounding vocal, guitar and drum parts in the track. It’s not over produced, I can easily imagine them playing this live and sounding pretty much like the studio version of it. The arrangement is pleasing to the ear. Tension that is generated with faster and growling parts, resolve into arpeggiated guitar chords and choral vocals, which create a good contrast and keep the listener engaged.

Vile Retribution released the track with an official lyric video which takes the viewer on a stride among the woods, that speeds up in sync with the song’s tempo changes. Just like the tracks elements such as its sound, its arrangement, musician’s performers, the video is also in classic black metal fashion, except the band’s choice of font, which reminds me of a 90’s video game where the player shoots nazis.

When I take all these into account, I’d like to say that I enjoyed listening to Vile Retribution. One thing that I have to say though is that the band should up their online presence, they are a talented duo, that can make pretty much everything by themselves, but all those great efforts are wasted if it isn’t reaching out to the listeners. I’m sure if the band can tackle these challenges that every independent band faces nowadays, they can make names in the genre, they are in the right place, at the right time, creating the right sounds for people who are searching to expand on the sounds of classic death/black metal.
