The Unbroken came onto my radar approximately three months ago with their electrifying song, “Suffering in Silence,” taken from their debut EP album, “Human Crown,” released in 2019. Serving as their first official release, this EP features five promising tracks. I must say that “Suffering in Silence” exceeds the expectations typically associated with an up-and-coming band. It gives me the impression that these American gentlemen are either highly experienced musicians who have come together to embark on this fresh project or they have finally been given the opportunity to make an official release after years of collaboration. In either case, it is an incredibly promising body of work.
“Suffering in Silence” boasts a four-minute runtime with an easily digestible structure, lending itself to commercial and mainstream appeal. What sets the song apart is its overall dynamics, energy flow, exceptional sound quality, production, and addictive groove that permeates throughout. The Unbroken possesses a distinctive character in their music, immediately calling to mind the legendary pioneers of traditional heavy music, Motorhead. In many ways, The Unbroken can be described as a heavier incarnation of Motorhead, especially evident in this song.
Furthermore, the band has made a conscious decision to keep things simple, prioritizing the overall impact, energy, and live performance aspect where they excel. It is true that there are numerous bands operating within the realm of traditional metal, often producing similar sounds. In this genre, listeners expect to feel the raw energy rather than experience groundbreaking innovation, and that is a sentiment I deeply respect. Suffering in Silence is an ideal fit for those who crave the exhilarating blend of rock ‘n’ roll and metal.
