Today I am writing about a promising modern melodic metalcore band; Gloomchild, from Tampa, Florida, USA with; Underpass, one of their singles released in 2022.

First of all, Gloomchild's Underpass has much more to offer compared to what we usually hear from the overcrowded mainstream metalcore scene as you also give it a listen with full attention. Although Gloomchild carries all the characteristics of mainstream metalcore ideas and similarities in their sound design, they are one of the very few bands that stand out with their personal performances in this special collective. They have enough "greats" in this song to be called a hot prospect.

Secondly, Underpass speaks to a wide range of metalheads with its impressive sound work. It has all the necessary qualities to be considered both metalcore and mainstream at the same time, specifically reminding me of Korn, Architects, Linkin Park, Spiritbox, Northlane, and Killswitch Engage. I loved the meaty and beasty metal guitar tones very much, has credit for this successful outcome together with the vocalist and sound engineer.

Lastly, the musical side of the work has done everything by the book, and also shows vision. The musical foundation here has influences from the 2000s nu-metal up to today's mainstream metalcore, and Gloomchild shines with this music style for their individual talent and performances.

For me personally, it also took some time for me to understand the vision properly. Although I appreciated and enjoyed Underpass very much, I also have to admit that it distanced itself from me with its cliche modern metalcore similarity in its sound work, and emo influences on the musical part.

When I put all these into account, I'd like to say that I had a great time listening to Underpass. With influences from the 2000s nu-metal up to today's mainstream metalcore, Gloomchild's Underpass showcases their impressive sound work and individual talent, making them a hot prospect in the crowded metalcore scene. Strongly Recommended Metal. Thanks for reading.
